In defiance of a restraining order from the National Industrial Court and despite ongoing legal proceedings, the Federal Capital Territory High Court Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, has suspended operations in adherence to the industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC). The strike, which commenced at midnight on Monday, received unanimous approval from the NLC National Executive Council in Abuja.
The NLC strike has persisted, even after the National Industrial Court in Abuja granted an ex parte motion filed by the federal government, restraining the labor unions from proceeding with the industrial action.
Despite the Federal High Court in Abuja continuing its proceedings on Monday and Tuesday morning, the FCT High Court displayed a closed entrance gate and a deserted premises on Tuesday. An anonymous private guard informed that the court was closed “due to the NLC Strike.”
In a similar vein, the Federal High Court is gearing up for potential disruptions as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) is scheduled to hold a Congress meeting at the court’s Ukeje Hall. The meeting, set for 11 am, will address the ongoing NLC strike action and other pertinent issues. The actions of these courts underscore the solidarity among various segments of the workforce in support of the nationwide strike declared by the NLC.
