The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of preventing him from receiving visitors. Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel Kanu, claimed that the DSS denied access to visitors to hide the deteriorating health condition of the IPOB leader.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in DSS custody in Abuja despite court orders for his release. The DSS detained him following his rearrest in Kenya and his subsequent extradition to Nigeria in June 2021. Despite court rulings ordering access to family members and lawyers twice a week, the family alleges that the DSS has been blocking visitors.
Emmanuel Kanu expressed concern over the suspicious actions of the DSS, describing it as a disregard for a subsisting court order and an attempt to conceal his brother’s declining health condition. Nnamdi Kanu’s prolonged detention has been a subject of controversy and legal battles.
