In the midst of political tension between Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, and Governor Godwin Obaseki, Shaibu boldly declares his intent to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial ticket for the upcoming September 2024 polls.
Shaibu, during an interview with ChannelsTV on Tuesday, asserted that no force could prevent him from participating in the election. He emphasized that it is the turn of his senatorial zone to produce the state governor, and his candidacy is not driven by selfish motives but by the desire to safeguard the destiny of Edo.
Stressing the interconnectedness of destinies, Shaibu stated, “We need an Edo state and a Nigeria where we, the people of Nigeria, can decide.” Confident in his candidacy, he assured that his name would be on the ballot, emphasizing thorough consultations and assurances received.
Addressing his vision for governance, Shaibu pledged to bring the government closer to the people. Drawing on his extensive government experience and collaborations with past leaders, he outlined areas for improvement. He particularly highlighted the potential of sports to reduce unemployment in the state and discussed plans for enhancing agriculture and empowering Edo civil servants through capacity building initiatives started by the current governor.
In asserting his commitment to the political journey ahead, Shaibu declared, “My focus is not on myself,” signaling a broader dedication to advancing the welfare and development of Edo State.
