Nobody Is Accusing Nigerian Government of Persecuting Christians – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that no one is accusing the Nigerian government of persecuting Christians, contrary to widespread claims following recent comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme monitored by Daily Post on Tuesday, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) often interprets any form of criticism as a direct attack on its administration.

Abdullahi’s comment came in response to Trump’s declaration of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian genocide, alongside his claim that he had instructed the U.S. Defence Department to prepare for possible military action should the killings continue.

According to Abdullahi, the issue has been misunderstood by the APC, who he accused of being overly defensive and historically incompetent.

“Nobody is accusing this government of persecuting Christians or engaging in religious bigotry,” Abdullahi said. “They are missing the point. The APC sees every criticism as an attack, yet they have continued to demonstrate incompetence.

“We in the ADC are not viewing the U.S. declaration as an opportunity for political gain. Instead, we are embarrassed that external powers are framing Nigeria’s security challenges in ways that could deepen divisions among our people.”
