The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State Command has confirmed the arrest of a fraudster, Babatunde Adekunle, for swapping the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card of an elderly man and subsequently using the card to withdraw N1.8 million from the man’s account.
The state Commandant of NSCDC, Umar Mohammed, paraded Babatunde Adekunle alongside six other suspects who were apprehended with two trucks loaded with railway slippers in Oloru, Moro Local Government Area of the state.
According to Mohammed, Babatunde Adekunle, aged 41, allegedly swapped his ATM card with that of the elderly man at an ATM point in a bank in Ilorin. Following the card swap, he fraudulently withdrew N1.8 million from the victim’s account. The case was reported, and the commandant immediately ordered the tracking unit to apprehend the suspect.
Regarding the seizure of two trucks loaded with railway slippers, the suspects were identified as Yunusa Bello (41), Sanni Taminu (35), Sanusi Lawal (25), Alhaji Makeri (33), Lukman Sanni (32), and Olabode Johnson (41).
Commandant Umar expressed his gratitude to the state government, traditional rulers, and the people of Kwara State for their support. He assured the public that the NSCDC would continue to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of residents and their properties in the state.
