Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has highlighted the significant impact of investing in road infrastructure on scaling up economic activities in Abuja. Wike made this assertion during an inspection of ongoing road projects in the nation’s capital on Wednesday.
Among the roads scrutinized was the Outer Southern Expressway, extending from A.A Rano through Deeper Life junction, currently under construction by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) Nigeria Limited. Additionally, Wike inspected the Northern N-20 Expressway in the Jahi district, being constructed by Gilmor Construction firm.
Expressing the tangible results of the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, Wike emphasized the practicality of the projects, stating, “This is what the people want; it is not theory; it is practical, let them see the action.”
Acknowledging the initial abandonment of these roads, Wike recounted his efforts in inviting contractors and collaborating on funding strategies to revitalize the projects. He assured that the contractors had committed to completing the roads within the stipulated timeframe.
Some of the projects, according to Wike, have been designated to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one-year anniversary, with plans for numerous commissioning events in the coming days.
Praising the contractors for their progress, Wike urged them to maintain the quality of work. He expressed satisfaction with the public’s response, noting, “I am pleased that the people are happy as they are satisfied with what President Tinubu’s administration is doing. It is not magic; it is a matter of commitment to satisfy our people. When you do the right thing, the people will jubilate.”
