The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesome Wike, has stated that he will not contest against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing his character and commitment to justice. During a media parley in Abuja, Wike highlighted that Tinubu played a significant role in his ministerial appointment and expressed gratitude by supporting Tinubu’s presidential ambitions.
Wike clarified that his stance against injustice led him and the G5 group of governors to support Tinubu’s presidential aspirations. He dismissed the possibility of contesting against the president in 2027, citing his loyalty and appreciation for Tinubu’s role in his political career.
Regarding his face-off with Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State, Wike mentioned the misuse of power and money as revealing aspects of an individual’s character. He lamented the destruction of the political structure that supported Fubara’s emergence as governor within three months.
Addressing achievements during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, Wike highlighted efforts to pay pensioner’s gratuities, elevate the state’s political significance, and implement successful political strategies.
Concerning new requirements for land acquisition in the FCT, Wike explained the introduction of National Identity Number (NIN) and Biometric Verification Number (BVN) to the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O). He emphasized that these features aimed at enhancing security and revenue generation, requiring existing landowners to undergo recertification.
Wike clarified that existing landowners would pay a nominal fee for recertification and discussed the benefits of accurately identifying property owners for tax purposes. The incorporation of NIN and BVN in the C of O is part of measures to address discrepancies and improve security and revenue generation.
