Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has distanced himself from a woman named Taiwo Obasanjo who claimed to be his wife and issued an apology on his behalf for allegedly debasing traditional rulers. Mrs. Taiwo Obasanjo had asked traditional rulers to forgive her husband for ordering them to stand up and sit down like school children at an event in Oyo State.
In a statement titled “Oyo Kings: A Plea for Forgiveness,” Mrs. Obasanjo expressed regret and begged for forgiveness from various quarters, including Yoruba sons and daughters, leaders in Yoruba land, and the Council of Kings in Yoruba land.
However, former President Obasanjo disowned Taiwo Obasanjo and clarified that she is not his wife but an impostor. The former president emphasized that no one except him or individuals delegated by him can make statements on behalf of the Obasanjo family.
While distancing himself from Taiwo Obasanjo’s statement, former President Obasanjo reiterated his position that the office of a State Governor is of utmost importance and should be respected according to the Constitution. He maintained that any act that diminishes the dignity of the Governor’s office is unacceptable.
