Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has decided to send a delegation to President Bola Tinubu in a bid to address the growing insecurity in the South-East region of Nigeria.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. Attendees included Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, former governor of Anambra State Senator Chris Ngige, and several other prominent figures such as former Senate President Pius Anyim and Osita Chidoka.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, who hosted the meeting, emphasized that insecurity remains the greatest challenge facing the South-East region. He expressed the need for intervention from the Federal Government, stating that the governors of the region and lawmakers are working together to find lasting solutions.
Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, stated that the issue of insecurity in the South-East cannot be solved by the governors alone. He highlighted the need for collaboration with the Federal Government, and the delegation intends to discuss this matter with President Tinubu.
Senator Chris Ngige, the immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, confirmed that the meeting focused on security and the economy of the region. He mentioned that important resolutions were made, but did not provide further details.
The delegation from Ohanaeze Ndigbo hopes that by engaging with President Tinubu, they can seek the necessary support and intervention to address the security challenges in the South-East region.
