The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organization has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency over the ongoing sit-at-home order in the Southeast. The organization believes that such a declaration would compel Southeast governors to find a lasting solution to the situation that has led to the disruption of economic activities in the region.
The sit-at-home order, declared by Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, has aggravated the crisis in the Southeast, leading to attempts to cripple the region’s economic activities. In response, Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, emphasized that the body would not tolerate actions that destroy the economic wellbeing of the Southeast.
Isiguzoro stressed the need for urgent and decisive action in dealing with the situation, stating that a state of emergency in the affected areas could prompt the Southeast governors to address the problem promptly. He further expressed concern that Ekpa’s actions were dividing the Igbos and called for unity among the people.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo reiterated their support for President Tinubu and expressed their commitment to assisting in quashing the rebellion caused by the sit-at-home order. The organization called on other prominent figures, like Peter Obi, to speak up against the crisis and ensure the wellbeing and unity of the Igbos.
