The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has issued an appeal to Nigerian youths, urging them to resist being manipulated into causing chaos in the country. This advice comes as the nation awaits the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday, amid heightened tension and concerns of potential protests depending on the verdict.
The supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) are hoping for the Tribunal to annul President Bola Tinubu’s victory, while members of Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) argue that his victory was well-deserved and should be upheld.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the National President of the Ohanaeze Youth group, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, called on the youth not to be misled by politicians. He expressed concerns that politicians might try to recruit youths to protest the judgment outcome, and he advised them against becoming tools in the hands of these politicians.
Nnabuike reminded the youths that the Appeal Court’s decision was still at the first instance, emphasizing that the final judgment would rest with the Supreme Court. He also appealed to security agencies to ensure the safety of citizens without resorting to harassment or violence.
