Oladips Alleges EFCC Collected ₦10 Million Before His Release

Nigerian rapper and songwriter, Oladips, has made a shocking revelation about his ordeal in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that the anti-graft agency collected ₦10 million from him before granting his release.

Speaking nearly a year after his arrest, Oladips recounted how EFCC operatives stormed his estate in a midnight raid in November 2024, arresting him and several of his neighbours over alleged internet fraud. He spent five days in detention before regaining freedom.

In a recent appearance on the Trending podcast, the artist described the experience as humiliating and emotionally draining, insisting that the EFCC found nothing incriminating against him.

“I’m not even supposed to be there first of all. Why did I spend four to five days there when they didn’t find anything on me? Not even a single thing. And they still collected ₦10 million from me before releasing me,” Oladips said.

He lamented the poor conditions of EFCC detention facilities, describing them as “smelling places” where detainees were “packed like sardines” and fed substandard meals. According to him, fellow musician Zlatan Ibile came to his aid by sending food through a friend during his detention.

“Funny enough, it was Zlatan that was sending me food. He’s not just a friend — that’s my blood. He made sure I ate something good because the food there was terrible,” he added.

When asked whether he plans to take legal action against the EFCC, Oladips appeared hopeless, expressing frustration with Nigeria’s justice system.

“Who is my father? At the end of the day, it’s just me and my truth. I don’t know how the system works. If I were doing Yahoo, they would have posted me everywhere. But they found nothing. So what was the ₦10 million for? What was all that stress and suffering for? It’s just Nigeria — Nigeria happened to me,” he lamented.

This is not the first time the Lalakukulala crooner has spoken publicly about his clash with the EFCC. In a previous interview, Oladips clarified that contrary to rumours, he was not arrested for internet fraud but over alleged tax-related issues — a claim he said was later proven to be false.

The EFCC is yet to respond to the new allegations as Nigerians continue to debate the rapper’s claims on social media, with many calling for transparency and accountability from the anti-corruption agency.
