Several players from the Nigeria national football team, also known as the Super Eagles, have expressed their support for their female counterparts, the Super Falcons, in their call for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay their outstanding salaries. The Super Falcons recently participated in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where they were eliminated after a penalty shootout defeat to England.
Despite their performance, the players have not received their payments from the NFF, leading to frustration among the team members. FIFPRO, the international football players’ union, released a statement expressing regret that the players had to challenge their own federation for payments during such an important time in their careers.
In response to the situation, players from the Super Eagles, including Victor Osimhen, Victor Anicehe, and Odion Ighalo, have taken to social media to show their solidarity and call on the NFF to pay the Super Falcons what they are owed. Osimhen wrote, “Pay them NFF,” while Anicehe emphasized, “NFF pay them! They did us all proud! And even if they didn’t. Pay them what they are owed!!!” Ighalo also posted, “NFF never stop these things.”
The support from the Super Eagles players underscores the unity among Nigerian football players and their shared commitment to advocating for fair treatment and timely payments for all national team members. The Super Falcons are expected to return to Nigeria on Wednesday following their participation in the Women’s World Cup.
