In a heartfelt letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the Concerned Parents of Chibok Girls have reached out to seek his support in facilitating the release of 92 girls who are still held captive by Boko Haram since the unfortunate incident in 2014. The parents expressed their congratulations to President Tinubu and Kashim Shettima on their assumption of office as President and Vice President, respectively.
Yana Galang, the mother of Rifkatu Galang, and Zanna Lawan, the father of Aisha Lawan, both still in captivity, issued the letter on behalf of the Concerned Parents of Chibok Girls. They passionately implored President Tinubu to assist them in securing the freedom of the remaining girls, stating, “Mr. President, as you are well aware, our predicament started in 2014 when 276 of our daughters from Chibok Government Secondary School were abducted.”
The parents expressed their deep sorrow and anguish over the years of pain and suffering they have endured, emphasizing their disappointment that, even after nine years and during the previous administration’s final months, 92 girls remain captive, enduring unimaginable hardship and abuse at the hands of their captors.
While acknowledging that President Tinubu did not make a direct pledge regarding their specific situation during his inaugural speech, the parents recalled his commitment to prioritizing security. They humbly beseeched the President’s attention, urging him to focus on the recovery of the remaining 92 kidnapped daughters, stating, “We, the concerned parents of Chibok, humbly seek Your Excellency’s attention to once again shine a light on the recovery of our kidnapped daughters.”
The parents reminded President Tinubu of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech in 2015, where he acknowledged that his administration could not claim victory over Boko Haram without rescuing all the Chibok girls. They expressed hope that with the baton now passed within the same political party in 2023, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, being from their region, would fulfill these commitments. They believed that achieving these goals would ensure a positive historical legacy for President Tinubu, his family, his government, and his party.
In their plea, the parents expressed their deep longing for President Tinubu to be the guiding light that would dispel their darkness, alleviate their pain, dry their tears, and liberate them from the shackles of sadness, sorrow, and anguish that have plagued their lives. They revealed their reluctance to hold further commemorations of the abduction, hoping that President Tinubu’s intervention would bring an end to their ongoing struggle and serve as a beacon of hope.
The Concerned Parents of Chibok Girls earnestly await President Tinubu’s assistance and support, viewing it as their only acceptable alternative to the continued suffering and uncertainty they endure.
