In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Edo State, gunmen believed to be hired assassins have attacked a pastor, Rev Samuel Chinyereugo, and killed his wife, Peace. The incident occurred at the God’s Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly, located on Upper Lawani Street, New Benin, Benin City.
Reports indicate that the attack took place around 7:36 pm on Monday, August 14, 2023. Tragically, Peace Chinyereugo succumbed to her injuries and passed away at a hospital a few hours after the attack.
The assistant pastor of the church also suffered injuries to his head during the attack, underscoring the brutality of the incident. According to witnesses, the gunmen trailed the pastor and his wife to the church, ambushing them as they parked their car in front of the church. The assailants fired shots, killing Peace Chinyereugo and injuring both the pastor and his deputy.
Rev. Samuel Chinyereugo recounted that he had noticed a car trailing him earlier in the day, which had raised suspicions. He was taken by surprise when the same vehicle stopped behind him in front of his church.
