The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong disapproval of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the ethically challenged former Governor of Kano State, as its National Chairman. The PDP accuses the APC of being a party of thieves, bribe takers, and treasury looters.
The appointment of Ganduje, who is infamously known as “Gandola” for the viral video showing him stuffing his gown with US Dollar notes allegedly received as a bribe from a contractor while serving as Governor of Kano State, has drawn sharp criticism from the PDP. The party claims that the choice of Ganduje as the National Chairman demonstrates the APC’s disregard for honesty, integrity, and moral rectitude required of public office holders.
The PDP highlights that a forensic analysis by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) confirmed the authenticity of the “Gandollar” video, raising further concerns about Ganduje’s suitability for the position. The PDP also questions the integrity of the APC under Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as Ganduje, who should be facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged bribery, has been rewarded with a top position in the party.
In response to Ganduje’s assertion that he will “hit the ground running” to ensure the victory of the APC in upcoming governorship elections, the PDP dismisses it as a mere daydream. The party reminds Ganduje of his previous humiliating defeat in the Osun State Governorship election and predicts a worse outcome for the APC in the forthcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States.
The PDP further highlights the significant defeat suffered by the APC in Kano State during the 2023 general elections under Ganduje’s watch, indicating that he lacks political value and cannot secure victory in any electoral contest in the country. The PDP urges Ganduje to prioritize facing investigation and prosecution by the EFCC for the alleged bribery and corruption cases hanging over him if he genuinely wants to “hit the ground running.”
Overall, the PDP’s statement reflects its strong condemnation of the APC’s choice of Ganduje as National Chairman and its criticism of the party’s alleged corruption and lack of political value. The battle between the two major parties continues to shape the political landscape in Nigeria as they prepare for upcoming elections.
