The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised serious accusations against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that Nigerians are being extorted with the increased N617 pump price of petrol. The party contends that the price of fuel should not exceed N150 per litre and criticizes the current administration for its lack of sensitivity and compassion towards Nigerians.
In a statement by PDP’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, the party expresses concern that the escalated fuel price is exacerbating the already suffocating economic situation under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. PDP warns that if the situation is not addressed, it has the potential to trigger a severe crisis in the country.
The party is deeply disappointed that instead of focusing on stabilizing and growing the economy, the APC administration has neglected the welfare of Nigerians, which should be its primary responsibility under the Constitution. PDP believes that the government’s actions have left citizens vulnerable to market forces and exploitative individuals, indicating a lack of accountability to the people.
PDP further raises alarm over the APC’s ill-thought-out, poorly planned, and hastily executed policies, which it believes are driving the Nigerian economy into the ground. The devaluation of the national currency, business shutdowns, loss of livelihoods, crippled commercial and social activities, and the skyrocketing costs of essential goods and services are all consequences of the government’s insensitivity, corruption, and lack of economic management capacity.
The party firmly states that the N617 per litre fuel price is excessive, unacceptable, and cannot be justified under any circumstances. Even with the subsidy removal, PDP maintains that, with transparent and innovative resource management, leveraging economic potentials and refining capacity, fuel should be sold for no more than N150 per litre in Nigeria.
The PDP’s accusations highlight the urgent need for the government to address the fuel price issue and take necessary steps to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. The party calls for accountability and responsible governance to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the citizens.
