Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has commended the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammed, for reviving the party from what he described as an “Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”
Fayose said Mohammed’s emergence has brought renewed hope and stability to the PDP, adding that the party now stands a real chance of recovery under his leadership.
His remarks followed the recent Oyo State High Court ruling that gave the PDP the go-ahead to hold its long-awaited national convention.
The court’s decision overturned an earlier order by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had suspended the convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan over alleged irregularities.
Reacting to the development in a statement on Tuesday, Fayose criticised those who had earlier sought to block the convention through legal means, accusing them of desperation.
“It appears desperation has clouded their judgment. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have approached a State High Court for an order on a matter already decided by a Federal High Court,” Fayose said.
“Unfortunately for them, the PDP has been rescued from their grip. It was in the Intensive Care Unit, but it is now being looked after by our new acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman. I believe the party will survive under his leadership and begin the healing process from the injuries inflicted by those self-serving elements.”
Fayose expressed optimism that Mohammed’s leadership would steer the PDP toward unity and strength as it prepares for future political contests.
