The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vehemently denied recent reports suggesting the removal of its Imo State gubernatorial candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, from his position as National Secretary of the party. Dismissing the reports as false, the NWC clarified that Anyanwu’s role remains intact, contrary to earlier claims that the change was made to allow him to focus on his governorship race.
In a statement released on Friday night by the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party emphasized that it neither relieved nor contemplated relieving Anyanwu of his position. The NWC condemned the dissemination of misleading information, urging individuals or groups with concerns to address them without resorting to fabrications.
The statement read, in part, “The NWC states and cautions that no matter how strongly an individual or group feels about an issue, resorting to fabrications, lies, and claiming a non-existent decision by the NWC is highly condemnable.”
While emphasizing the falsehood of the claims, the PDP urged Nigerians, especially its members and supporters in Imo State, to disregard the reported allegations. The party affirmed Senator Anyanwu as both the National Secretary and the official candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Imo State, scheduled for November 11, 2023.
The NWC also called on the PDP in Imo State to maintain unity, focus, and resilience, cautioning against distractions from what it referred to as “suppressive forces” aiming to disrupt the party’s march to victory in the imminent election.
