The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the 8-point resolution brokered by President Bola Tinubu between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The opposition party, at the end of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) Emergency Meeting on the Political Developments in Rivers State, declared that there is no remedy for the 25 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by the PDP Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, on Tuesday, December 19, through its official X page (formerly known as Twitter) @OfficialPDPNig, Damagum emphasized that the lawmakers maintain their seats. He stated that the only option available to them is to seek fresh nomination and re-election on the platform of any political party of their choice.
The party’s position is clear that there is no division within the PDP at the national or any other level that justifies the lawmakers’ defection to the APC. The PDP rejected the resolution put forward by President Tinubu, signaling a disagreement on the proposed remedy for the political situation in Rivers State.
The statement by Damagum reinforces the PDP’s stance on the matter and sets the stage for potential further developments in the ongoing political dynamics in Rivers State.
