Youth leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have called for the suspension of the party’s State Youth Leader, Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud, known as ‘Dan Iya’, due to his alleged outrageous claims and incessant verbal attacks on party leaders, particularly former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki. The youth leaders, representing all 16 local government areas, criticized Dan Iya’s behavior and described him as a marauder known for serial betrayal, fraudulent antics, and disloyalty to the party.
In a statement jointly signed by AbdulHamid Issa, Sulyman Kehinde, and Jibril Audu, the youth leaders expressed dismay over Dan Iya’s attacks on Dr. Bukola Saraki and the party’s major financier in the state. They highlighted his past controversies, including the alleged illegal sale of equipment belonging to the PDP and his attempt to influence the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries in 2018. The youth leaders questioned Dan Iya’s credibility in demanding transparency and accountability from the party when he himself has been involved in dubious actions.
The statement condemned Dan Iya’s recent statement against the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) and expressed support for the SWC’s response, describing the allegations of campaign/election funds as baseless. The youth leaders also referenced previous scandals involving Dan Iya, such as the unauthorized possession of a campaign vehicle and his alleged resistance to becoming the State Youth Leader.
The PDP youth leaders disassociated themselves from any activities involving Dan Iya and demanded his immediate suspension from the party to restore sanity and allow for a comprehensive investigation into his conduct. They reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki for his continued support despite the challenges faced under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
