The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its determination to resist what it perceives as the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) efforts to establish one-party rule in Nigeria.
During the 75th meeting of the BoT held in Abuja, Acting Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara read a communique that outlined the board’s resolutions. Among the key points:
1. The BoT expressed its resolve to counter the alleged desperation by the APC to transform Nigeria into a one-party state.
2. It reiterated its rejection of the Presidential Election Petition Court’s (PEPC) judgment affirming the APC as the winner of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election, despite evidence suggesting otherwise.
3. The BoT is closely monitoring election court cases to evaluate adherence to the rule of law and evidence presented.
4. The board commended PDP’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for pursuing legal processes to challenge the election outcome.
5. Expressing confidence in the Supreme Court’s capacity and courage, the BoT believes the court can rectify errors in the PEPC’s judgment in the interest of national unity, stability, and existence.
6. The BoT expressed concern over rising hardships, insecurity, and a sense of apprehension due to APC’s policies.
7. It voiced dismay over the falling value of the Naira, driven by APC’s ill-implemented policies, resulting in economic challenges and high living costs.
8. The BoT warned that APC’s suppressive rule and the growing poverty and anger among Nigerians could lead to a serious crisis if not addressed urgently.
9. In this precarious situation, the PDP is seen as a beacon of hope, and the BoT assured Nigerians that the party remains united and determined to lead efforts to restore democracy, credible elections, the rule of law, national unity, and economic prosperity in Nigeria.
These resolutions highlight the PDP BoT’s commitment to ensuring political pluralism and maintaining a robust democratic environment in Nigeria amid concerns about the political landscape.
