In a recent interview on Arise TV’s ‘The Morning Show,’ Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, expressed concerns about leadership challenges in Nigeria. He highlighted the prevalence of leaders with forged certificates and age discrepancies, emphasizing that such individuals struggle to fulfill their responsibilities in office.
Obi, who is challenging the election of President Tinubu, stressed the significance of the process through which leaders come into office. He asserted that the integrity and honesty of leaders play a crucial role in building a strong society. Obi maintained that challenging the electoral process is essential before moving forward to ensure that leaders have entered through the right channels.
Addressing the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s eligibility, Obi stated that the issue goes beyond mere qualification and extends to the honesty and truthfulness of leaders. He argued that a foundation of honour and integrity is vital for the development of a morally upright society.
Obi emphasized that having numerous degrees is not a prerequisite for greatness but urged leaders to be honest about their past. He suggested that leaders living false lives due to forged credentials cannot be expected to make morally sound decisions.
The ongoing legal battle over Tinubu’s academic records was also mentioned, with Atiku Abubakar filing a case in the United States to challenge Tinubu’s eligibility and alleged certificate forgery. Despite Tinubu’s efforts to prevent the release of his academic records, a U.S. court ruled against him, allowing the disclosure of relevant documents to Atiku.
