Major and independent marketers of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, have recently increased the pump price of the essential fuel. Several filling stations in the area have been observed dispensing petrol at higher rates, with prices ranging from N545 to N700 per litre.
During a visit by our correspondent on Tuesday, various fuel stations were found selling petrol at different prices. Notable among them were NIPCO, which sold a litre for N545, Shafa Energy, which sold for N595, Rainoil at N568, Emmanuel at N560, and Neeman at N700 per litre.
The increase in petrol prices at these stations has raised concerns among consumers in the state, as it impacts transportation costs and the cost of living. These developments may prompt discussions on the affordability of essential commodities and could potentially lead to public discontent.
It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds, and whether government authorities will take any actions to address the concerns of the public and regulate petrol prices in the region.
