In a candid revelation, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna and a former winner of the Big Brother Naija reality show, has expressed her desire to identify as a man despite being a woman physically. Phyna explained that she mentally aligns herself with the male gender due to societal stereotypes against women.
During the latest episode of the Big Friday Show with Tacha on Cool FM Nigeria, Phyna touched on various topics, including her recent social media feud with Nigerian music sensation Davido.
She stated, “I am a woman, but most of the time, I want to identify as a man. In my next world, I want to be a man. I am a woman physically, but I can identify as a man because most times they just try to talk down on you because you are a woman.”
Phyna emphasized her stance against conforming to societal expectations based on gender and recounted her approach during the social media disagreement with Davido. Refusing to yield to perceived disrespect, Phyna asserted her right to call out anyone, regardless of their status.
She recounted the incident with Davido, stating, “For example, what happened between me and David [Davido] when he said he didn’t know me. Everybody said, ‘Phyna, you should have taken the opportunity to introduce yourself.’ No! Because he is David (Davido) doesn’t mean I have to kiss ar**.”
Phyna’s openness about her identity and her willingness to challenge societal norms add a unique perspective to the conversation on gender roles and expectations in Nigerian society.
