Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has raised concerns that the ongoing crisis in his state is a deliberate attack with the intention of eradicating the people. He refuted claims that the conflict on the Plateau revolves around a farmer/herder crisis, emphasizing that such assertions are baseless.
The governor expressed regret over the fact that innocent people were ambushed and killed while they were asleep, describing the incidents as organized attacks aimed at exterminating the population.
According to Governor Mutfwang, “What we are witnessing is a clear case of genocide; it is a deliberate and orchestrated plan to annihilate a significant number of people. I appreciate the efforts of the security forces, but there is still room for improvement with the right empathy and mobilization.”
He further emphasized that the situation goes beyond a simple farmer/herder clash, highlighting that people are being attacked in their villages at night. He called for an investigation into the identities and motivations of the assailants, as well as the masterminds and sponsors behind the insurgency.
Governor Mutfwang expressed confidence in the intelligence being gathered and shared with security agencies, believing that the recent changes in security arrangements in the country will contribute to resolving the crisis and putting an end to this troubling phase.
In the past two weeks, over 200 individuals have tragically lost their lives on the Plateau, further substantiating the governor’s claims.
