Governor Celeb Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed deep concern over the continuous displacement of communities and the occupation of schools by terrorists in the state. Speaking on recent attacks, the governor revealed that no fewer than 64 communities have been displaced, and some schools have been seized by terrorists for years.
In an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday, Governor Mutfwang highlighted the heavy burden faced by the state due to the ongoing terrorist activities. He disclosed that Christmas celebrations were marred by attacks, with at least 17 communities being targeted.
Governor Mutfwang explained the challenges faced in providing shelter for the displaced citizens and emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent the prolonged occupation of communities by terrorists. He criticized the perceived inaction under the previous administration, stating that residents felt the terrorists had official government backing.
The governor called attention to the long-term occupation of schools, some lasting up to five years, leading to the disruption of education for children and the abandonment of primary health care centers. He urged the current administration, particularly the president, to intervene and address the escalating security challenges in Plateau State.
The plight of the affected communities and the prolonged occupation of schools underscore the urgent need for comprehensive security measures and swift government intervention in the region.
