The police have announced the arrest of four suspects and the neutralization of two in connection with the deadly bank robbery that occurred on October 23 in the Otukpo area of Benue State. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, disclosed this information during a meeting with Strategic Police Managers in Abuja.
The Otukpo bank robbery resulted in the loss of lives, including the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) of the Otukpo division and several innocent Nigerians. A significant amount of money was also stolen from three commercial banks during the operation.
Egbetokun stated that the relentless efforts of police personnel, based on both human and technically-generated intelligence, led to the identification of the armed robbers’ hideouts. Two of the suspects were neutralized during the operation, while four others were successfully arrested.
The four suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation to track down other members of the gang who may have fled. The Inspector-General of Police reported the recovery of nine AK-47 rifles and 4,013 rounds of live ammunition from the arrested suspects.
