The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man named Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe for violating the social media policy on hate speech. The arrest was announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, via a statement on his Twitter page on Friday, June 16, 2023.
The statement reveals that in May, Adekusibe made threats on social media, stating his intention to kill and drive out all Igbos from Yorubaland, while also describing them as a violent people. Following the post, the police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspect in the llesa area of Osun State.
According to the statement, Adekusibe has confessed to the crime and will face charges in court. The police express their appreciation for the Osun State Police Command’s diligent efforts in this case and assure the public that all offenses leave traces and culprits will be held accountable.
The full statement reads as follows: “Today, 15th June 2023, the Osun Police Command has arrested one Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe, a 28-year-old man who violated the social media policy on hate speech. It could be recalled that on 18th May 2023, the suspect, Kehinde Adekusibe, posted the following tweet on his Twitter handle: ‘Let’s kill all the Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with passion. They are violent people. They are the worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back.’
“Immediately, the Police Command received the report, police detectives from the Cybercrime section at SCID Osogbo swung into action, and through intelligence-led investigation, the suspect was arrested at Ilesa where he had been hiding.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime, and he will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
“We have done what is necessary in this matter. It may take some time, but every offense committed leaves a trace, and culprits will surely face the music.
“Thanks to the Osun State Police Command for its painstaking efforts in this particular case.”
