President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that part of the recently signed N28.7 trillion 2024 budget includes a significant allocation of N100 billion for school feeding programs. The President made this announcement on Monday while signing the appropriation bill into law at the State House in Abuja.
Highlighting the importance of this provision, Tinubu emphasized that the N100 billion allocation is intended to serve as a stimulant to encourage school attendance and address the issue of malnutrition among school children. He expressed confidence that this initiative would contribute to reducing the number of out-of-school children and enhancing the overall well-being of students.
“I believe that is a stimulant that will encourage enrollment and address malnutrition among school children. I will be meeting with local governments at sub-national levels so that we can collaborate and jointly implement an all-inclusive programme,” President Tinubu stated.
The President also confirmed that the 2024 budget, christened the “Renewed Hope” budget, is strategically anchored on reducing recurrent expenditure while increasing capital expenditure. This shift in focus aims to prioritize investments in critical areas that contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
It is worth noting that in December, President Tinubu directed the reintroduction of the school feeding program and mandated its transfer from the Humanitarian Ministry to the Education Ministry. The allocation in the 2024 budget underscores the government’s commitment to addressing educational and nutritional needs, particularly among school children, as part of its broader development agenda.
