President Bola Tinubu has earmarked a substantial N10 billion for the reconstruction and repair of the official residence of his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. This allocation is part of the N21 billion budget proposal presented to the National Assembly last month by President Tinubu.
The 2024 Nigerian budget proposal, as reported earlier by SaharaReporters, also discloses that President Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, plan to spend N10.13 billion on meals and travels.
While the N27.5 trillion budget proposal is still under examination by the National Assembly, the breakdown reveals that President Tinubu is allocating N638.5 million for local trips and N6.9 billion for foreign trips, totaling N7.6 billion.
Vice President Shettima’s travel expenses are projected to be N1.8 billion, with N618.4 million allocated for local journeys and N1.2 billion for international trips.
In the detailed budget breakdown, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila has proposed N104 million for the purchase of computers and printers. Additionally, N579 million is set aside for “local travel and transport for international training,” and N103 million is allocated for “miscellaneous” expenses.
The budget presentation, made to a joint session, seeks legislative approval for a total spending plan that includes 1.78 million barrels per day of crude oil, a borrowing plan of N7.8 trillion, and an exchange rate of N700 to the US dollar. The allocation for the Chief of Staff’s residence highlights a significant investment in infrastructure within the proposed budget.
