President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness and grief over the recent wave of violence and killings in Plateau State and parts of Benue State. The President strongly condemned the internecine killings and termed the ongoing bloodshed as unnecessary and avoidable.
In a statement released by Presidential spokesperson Dele Alake, President Tinubu expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of innocent lives in the conflict. He highlighted the unfortunate death of an eight-month-old baby in Farin Lamba community of Vwang District, Jos South Local Government, emphasizing that innocent lives should not be the victims of ongoing conflicts.
President Tinubu stressed the need for tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence among communities to build strong and prosperous societies. He called upon community leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, socio-cultural organizations, and prominent bodies such as the Arewa Consultative Forum, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and the Christian Association of Nigeria to work together in fostering genuine and long-lasting peace.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating violent crimes and all forms of criminality across Nigeria. He directed security agencies to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind these heinous acts, ensuring they face the full consequences of the law.
President Tinubu also urged the governments of Plateau and Benue States, as well as emergency response agencies, to provide immediate support and relief to the displaced victims affected by the conflicts.
