In the aftermath of the tragic explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, President Bola Tinubu is demanding justice for the incident, laying blame on illegal miners allegedly responsible for the blast. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo had earlier pointed fingers at illegal miners, accusing them of storing explosive devices in a building located in the Bodija area of Ibadan.
Expressing his concern over the devastating explosion, President Tinubu issued a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. The president condemned the “inexcusable and reckless behavior” of those responsible for creating the conditions that led to the sad incident. He emphasized the importance of identifying and punishing those accountable for the tragedy.
“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished,” President Tinubu asserted.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, urging all concerned government agencies to swiftly investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion. He called for a thorough inquiry into the incident with alacrity to ensure that justice is served.
In response to the emergency, President Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with the Oyo State Government in providing immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims of the explosion. The call for justice and swift action underscores the gravity of the situation, as authorities work to unravel the details surrounding the tragic event in Ibadan.
