George Agbakahi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the South-East Leader of the Tinubu Support Group, has stated that President Bola Tinubu will release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the appropriate time.
In an interview on Tuesday, Agbakahi described Nnamdi Kanu’s case as a global issue and expressed his belief that President Tinubu, being a compassionate leader, would be prepared to release Kanu, even if certain conditions are attached.
Agbakahi referred to a campaign rally in Ebonyi State, where he was present as a member of the Presidential Campaign Council, and recalled that President Tinubu openly discussed his intention to work with Igbo leaders to address issues affecting the Igbo community, including the matter of Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB, as well as the activities of unknown gunmen.
He expressed confidence that the President would take appropriate action at the right time, considering the current political situation in the country. Agbakahi emphasized the need to address the challenges faced by the South-East, such as the activities of unknown gunmen and the disruptive sit-at-home orders, which have greatly impacted commerce and created fear among the people in the region.
Regarding appointments for Ndigbo (people from the Igbo ethnic group), Agbakahi stated that President Tinubu is a seasoned politician who recognizes the abilities of individuals from all geopolitical zones in the country. He highlighted that the President has never shown discrimination, even during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.
It remains to be seen how President Tinubu will address the issues mentioned and whether Nnamdi Kanu’s release will occur as speculated.
