The General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, has issued a stern caution to prophets who engage in predicting election outcomes in Nigeria, urging them to cease this practice he described as “despicable.”
During his Sunday sermon at the church’s headquarters, Dr. Olukoya emphasized that the pulpits within the House of God should be reserved for conveying truth to the children of God and should not be manipulated for political campaigns on behalf of politicians.
The respected deliverance pastor expressed his disappointment with the numerous Christian clerics who made predictions about the 2023 elections that ultimately proved false. He lamented that these self-proclaimed prophets had brought shame to the Christian faith by making baseless predictions in the run-up to the elections.
Dr. Olukoya remarked, “You see what happened in Nigeria during these last elections disgraced the religion of Christianity very well. This prophet said this person would win, and this would not win.”
He continued, “All did not come to pass, and they call themselves prophets. Prophets of where? It is madness when you begin to say what God does not ask you to say. The pulpit in the house of God is the pillar and ground of truth. It is not for political campaigns.”
The 2023 elections in Nigeria witnessed a significant number of clerics making public predictions about the potential winners, causing confusion among the populace. The presidential election, which took place on February 25, resulted in the victory of President Bola Tinubu.
Last Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja dismissed the petitions filed by three opposition parties, affirming President Tinubu’s victory.
Dr. Olukoya’s remarks serve as a reminder of the need for religious leaders to focus on their spiritual roles rather than engaging in partisan political activities.
