During a recent raid on Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner Headquarters in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s FSB security service troops made a startling discovery. They uncovered a substantial sum of money, amounting to approximately £38 million, concealed within a van and two buses located on the premises, as reported by Daily Mail.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner mercenary group, confirmed that the cash belonged to the organization and was intended to cover compensation payments for fallen Wagner soldiers. Although he did not provide an exact figure, earlier reports from Russian media estimated the value of the stash to be around £4 billion rubles.
In an audio message on the messaging platform Telegram, Prigozhin emphasized that the Wagner group has exclusively operated with cash for the past decade in accordance with their contractual agreements. He expressed full adherence to this practice.
Following the raid, several restrictions have been implemented in and around Moscow, as decreed by the governor. This comes as the Wagner group makes advances towards the Russian capital after seizing a crucial military base earlier. However, in a surprising turn of events, Yevgeny Prigozhin later announced a ceasefire, declaring that their march towards Moscow had been halted.
