President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). However, this appointment is still subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Following the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former EFCC Chairman, by the President for an investigation into allegations of abuse of power, Odumosu, a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, has been chosen to fill the position. His appointment comes after a thorough consideration by President Tinubu.
Odumosu had retired from the Nigeria Police Force in January 2022, after serving for 32 years and attaining the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG). Throughout his career, he held various important roles, including serving as the inaugural chairman of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) and as the Commander of the State-funded Rapid Response Squad (RRS). His extensive experience in law enforcement and public service makes him a suitable candidate for the position of EFCC Chairman.
As the appointment awaits confirmation from the Senate, Odumosu’s expertise and leadership will be crucial in the fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
