Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a significant appointment by naming the immediate-past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, as his new Chief of Staff. Ehie, a staunch ally of Governor Fubara, replaces the former Chief of Staff, Hon. Chidi Amadi.
The announcement follows Ehie’s resignation on Sunday night from his position as both Speaker and member representing Ahoada-East Constituency 2 in the Rivers State House of Assembly. This move has sparked speculation and raised questions about the underlying political motivations prompting his decision.
The circumstances surrounding Ehie’s resignation may be linked to the resolution signed during a peace meeting convened at the instance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The resolution recognized Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule as the Speaker of the House. However, it is noteworthy that there was no clause mandating Ehie to vacate his seat as a member of the House.
The appointment of Edison Ehie as the Chief of Staff underscores the governor’s confidence in his capabilities and loyalty.
