Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma, has openly expressed his interest in the coaching position for the Super Eagles, the national football team of Nigeria. Eguma, who has been at the helm of Rivers United for over a decade, believes that if selections are made based on merit, he is qualified for the prestigious role.
As the Super Eagles are currently preparing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) under the coaching of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, Eguma sees an opportunity to contribute to the success of the national team. The AFCON 2023 is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Cote d’Ivoire.
In an interview with Brila FM, Eguma stated, “I will serve my fatherland. I will do my best. I will work above my capacity to see that we make Nigeria proud and achieve the desired results.”
Eguma has a significant coaching track record, having led Rivers United to two league titles in 2011 and 2022. His extensive experience in Nigerian football and successful tenure with Rivers United positions him as a contender for the Super Eagles coaching job if the selection process prioritizes merit.
