Following the resignation of Sen. Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the Deputy National Chairman (North), has assumed the role of acting National Chairman, as per the party’s constitution.
In accordance with the party’s protocol, when a national chairman steps down, the deputy national chairman from the corresponding zone takes over in an acting capacity. Sen. Kyari led some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) into a meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja under tight security.
Accompanying Sen. Kyari were other top officials, including Deputy National Chairman (South) Emma Enukwu, National Vice Chairmen from different regions, and the Deputy National Secretary, Barr. Festus Fuanter.
Sen. Abubakar Kyari, born on January 15, 1960, in Borno State, is the son of the late Brigadier Abba Kyari, a former military administrator of North Central from 1967 to 1975. With his appointment as acting National Chairman, Sen. Kyari assumes a crucial leadership role in the APC during this period of transition.
