The Red Chamber of the National Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.
Ariwooola was confirmed at about 12:5pm after answering all the questions asked by the Senators when the Senate resorted to the Committee of the Whole.
During the exercise, the lawmakers requested that the acting CJN be asked to take a bow and go after he successfully responded to questions posed to him during screening.
Senators who asked the CJN questions included the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Philip Aduda, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Gabriel Suswam and Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah.
In his reaction, Senate President Ahmad Lawan ratified the decision of the lawmakers that the acting CJN be allowed to take a bow and go.
Thereafter the Senate reverted to plenary where the lawmakers also unanimously approved that the acting CJN’s nomination for appointment as CJN be confirmed by the Senate
