Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s government will implement an upward review of workers’ salaries to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on citizens.
Akpabio gave this assurance during a meeting with Ekiti Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, and members of parliament from the state at his office in the National Assembly.
He assured Nigerians that the federal government is well aware of the challenges faced by the fuel subsidy removal and stated that it was part of the current administration’s efforts to tackle corruption.
Akpabio emphasized that Nigeria would not have survived the coming years without the removal of fuel subsidy, asserting that the government would have the capacity to pay salaries and wages if they are reviewed upwards.
Governor Oyebanji commended Akpabio for his achievements in office during the last month and pledged full support from the people and government of Ekiti to the success of Akpabio’s tenure as the President of the 10th Senate. He also expressed readiness to partner with the legislature to move the country forward.
The assurance from the Senate president offers hope to Nigerian workers who have been concerned about the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on their livelihoods. The forthcoming upward review of salaries could provide some relief to citizens as the government takes measures to address the effects of the subsidy removal.
