In a significant development in Nigeria’s parliamentary landscape, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has unveiled the list of chairmen and vice-chairmen for the various standing committees of the upper legislative chambers. The announcement of committee assignments took place after the Senate reconvened from its break, with the proceedings beginning at 9.59pm and concluding at 10.47pm.
The Senate’s plenary session also resulted in the decision to adjourn until September 26th, marking the commencement of its long vacation period.
Among the distinguished senators assuming leadership roles in the standing committees are Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing APC from Edo North, who has been appointed as the chairman of the Committee on Interior. Senator Sani Musa, an APC representative from Niger East, has taken the helm of the Committee on Finance. Additionally, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, APC representative from Oyo North, has been entrusted with the responsibility of chairing the Committee on Aviation.
Other notable committee assignments include Osita Izunaso heading the Committee on Capital Market, Seriake Dickson overseeing the Committee on Ecology/Climate Change, and Neda Imasuen taking the lead on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. Aminu Tambuwal has been designated as the chairman of the Housing Committee.
