Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed alarm over the invasion of the National Assembly complex by hoodlums who harass lawmakers and steal their valuables. Akpabio raised concerns that the presence of these uninvited guests has made lawmakers feel threatened and uncomfortable while going about their legislative activities.
During a courtesy call by members of the National Assembly Service Commission, led by Chairman Ahmed Kadi Amshi, Akpabio acknowledged the ongoing renovation of the complex. He emphasized the need to ensure a cleaner and more secure environment for the lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly. He revealed that several Senators have already lost their telephones due to the influx of people into the complex.
In December, President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate various ongoing projects worth N30 billion at the National Assembly. The entire complex is currently undergoing renovations, with new edifices being constructed, including the permanent office complex of the National Assembly Service Commission and a library complex.
The issue of hoodlums invading the National Assembly complex is a matter of concern for the Senate President and other lawmakers. The security of the premises is crucial to maintaining a conducive working environment for the legislators and ensuring the smooth functioning of the legislative process.
