The Senate Committee on Communications has completed the screening of nominees for the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), with Idris Olorunnimbe appearing as the Chairman-designate.
During the session, Olorunnimbe assured lawmakers of his readiness to strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and regulatory framework in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He emphasized that his vision for the NCC is to foster broadband expansion, digital inclusion, consumer protection, and attract fresh investments into Nigeria’s telecommunications and digital economy sectors.
“The goal is to ensure that our communications infrastructure supports innovation and economic growth while protecting consumers and promoting fair competition,” Olorunnimbe told the committee.
Olorunnimbe, the Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of The Temple Company, highlighted his vast experience in leadership, corporate governance, and innovation across different sectors. He noted that his background as an entrepreneur, lawyer, and policy advocate has prepared him for the challenges of steering Nigeria’s telecom regulatory body into a new era of digital transformation.
A graduate of top global institutions, Olorunnimbe has completed executive programs at Harvard Business School, Oxford University, University of Cambridge, and Henley Business School.
The Senate Committee expressed confidence in his credentials and professionalism, describing his presentation as “visionary and forward-looking.” The nominees will now await full Senate confirmation in the coming days.
