In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who now represents Anambra South in the upper legislative chamber, expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu has been impartial in his dealings with the South-East region, affirming that more positive developments are on the horizon.
Having recently defected from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ubah, the first senator from the South-East State under the APC banner, defended his decision despite the party’s perceived weak performance in the 2023 elections in the region.
Addressing concerns about the APC’s influence in the South-East, Senator Ubah stated, “For someone winning election back to back, you know that you must be close to your people and you must always consult widely with your people. So for me to join the APC, I did my consultation and then I listened to the voice of my people.”
Highlighting what he perceives as President Tinubu’s fairness to the South-East, Senator Ubah pointed to the appointment of David Umahi as the Minister of Works, emphasizing that such a gesture would not have been conceivable in the past. He hinted at additional appointments and initiatives in the pipeline that would benefit the region.
“There are other appointments that are coming and so many other good things he wants to do for our people,” the senator added.
Senator Ubah urged the South-East to align with the APC, emphasizing the importance of not being left behind. “So, it is very important for us now to join the centre party so that we would not be left behind,” he asserted, predicting a mass movement from the region toward the APC.
As the senator concluded, he teased, “Just watch and see what is going to be in the next few weeks,” hinting at the expected entry of significant figures, including senators and other major stakeholders in the South-East, into the APC fold. The political landscape in the region appears poised for notable shifts in the coming weeks.
