Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has embarked on efforts to put an end to the Monday sit-at-home exercise in his constituency. He expressed concern over the damages caused by the illegal exercise and its negative impact on the economic value of Ndigbo, the Igbo people. Senator Ubah emphasized the need to stop the sit-at-home practice.
During the inauguration of security gadgets at the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium in Nnewi, which was attended by over 2000 vigilante operatives from different quarters of Nnewi, Senator Ubah announced that the vigilante group would take action to protect the people and their businesses. He instructed them to start their work immediately, ensuring that residents can freely engage in their businesses on Mondays.
While addressing the issue of security, Senator Ubah also mentioned his efforts to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in detention. He expressed optimism that Kanu would regain his freedom soon and stated that he and his colleagues in the 10th National Assembly would explore legislative options to facilitate his release.
In response to the pronouncements made by Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based individual, Senator Ubah cautioned Ekpa against meddling in the affairs of Anambra State and dictating the sit-at-home policy. He urged Ekpa to focus on his councilorship campaign in Finland and warned that continued interference would be met with a strong response.
Senator Ubah urged the vigilante operatives to enhance security around major markets in Nnewi, ensuring the safety of traders and their goods from unknown gunmen. He highlighted the procurement of various security gadgets, including CCTV cameras, patrol vans, motorcycles, walkie talkies, and wooden osisi agaga from Nnewi’s evil forests, which were made possible through the initiative of Nnewi Concerned Citizens.
