Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based pro-Biafra agitator, has written to the European Union and the United States of America, bringing to their attention the alleged human rights abuses carried out by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State in Southeast Nigeria.
On Wednesday, a tragic incident occurred when traders took to the streets to protest the sealing of their shops by the state government for not opening for business on Monday. Three people lost their lives during the protests.
In the aftermath of the incident, Simon Ekpa addressed a letter to the international community, urging them to take action against Governor Peter Mbah for his alleged violation of the citizens’ fundamental human rights.
According to Ekpa, Governor Mbah has been confiscating and locking up people’s businesses and means of sustenance without adhering to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or any international charter, treaty, or convention. This action, Ekpa claims, has denied the people of Enugu State their right to personal property and free enterprise.
In light of these alleged human rights abuses, Ekpa has called for the international community to impose a visa ban on Governor Peter Mbah. He has further requested that the governor be added to the list of individuals considered terrorists and enemies of freedom and democracy in Nigeria.
The situation in Enugu State has drawn attention to the need for human rights protection and adherence to democratic principles. As the matter gains international attention, stakeholders in the global community will closely monitor the developments and responses to the alleged abuses in Enugu State. The call for a visa ban on Governor Mbah is seen as a measure to hold accountable those responsible for violating human rights and to uphold democratic values.
