Mubarak Akadiru, the son of a housemaid, has confessed to the brutal murder of a 62-year-old grandmother and former head teacher, Mrs. Sidikat Adamolekun, in Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State. The defendant, aged 18 at the time of the crime, revealed to the Akure Magistrate Court that he repeatedly beat the deceased’s skull with a wooden stool when she caught him attempting to steal her Samsung phone.
The incident occurred on November 14, 2023, at 11:30 am, at Simiileolowa Quarters in Arigidi Akoko. The police prosecutor, Simon Wada, informed the court that Akadiru allegedly killed Mrs. Adamolekun by striking her on the head with a wooden stool during the attempted theft of her Android Samsung phone valued at N66,000.
In response to the confession, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the remand application and ordered the accused to be confined at the Olokuta Correctional Centre until the conclusion of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) advice. The case has been adjourned to March 15, 2024, for further consideration.
