State chairmen and leaders of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) from 10 states have called on Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, to cease presenting himself as the national leader of the party. The chairmen, in a joint statement, accused Kwankwaso of using the National Working Committee (NWC) to victimize members who opposed his leadership style.
The statement, signed by the chairmen and leaders from Ogun, Niger, Rivers, Katsina, Zamfara, Lagos, Oyo, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Ekiti states, criticized Kwankwaso for allegedly fueling the crisis within NNPP. They also condemned their purported suspension by the NWC for alleged anti-party activities, characterizing it as an unjust abuse of power.
The chairmen challenged the dissolution of party executives in seven states, including Enugu, Ekiti, Rivers, Niger, Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara, which was announced by NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Major Agbo. They argued that the dissolution was irregular and contravened both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022.
The chairmen accused Kwankwaso of engaging in anti-party activities himself by reportedly aligning with candidates from other political parties, suggesting that he was seeking personal gain.
They expressed concern about the lack of transparency in the disciplinary process, asserting that those accused of anti-party activities were not provided with copies of the petitions against them and were not made aware of the identity and status of the petitioners.
The chairmen called on the Founder/Chairman of NNPP’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, to intervene in the matter and restore order before the situation escalates further. They urged him to ensure that the party adheres to its constitution and standards of morality, and to reinstate the allegedly victimized executives across the states.
